Who Needs K&R Insurance?

K&R Insurance > Who Needs K&R Insurance?

Kidnapping is not a random crime. In most cases it is planned, targeted and financially motivated.

The individuals most at risk share common characteristics: they are visibly wealthy, professionally prominent or frequently present in parts of the world where kidnapping is used as a source of criminal revenue. K&R insurance is most relevant for people in the following categories.

International business executives – senior leaders who travel frequently to emerging markets or politically unstable regions on behalf of their organizations
Journalists working in high-risk regions – reporters, photographers and documentary makers who operate in conflict zones, cartel territories or countries with weak rule of law
Humanitarian aid workers – NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) employees and volunteers deployed to regions experiencing conflict, famine or political instability, where kidnapping for ransom is a known tactic against foreign workers
Wealthy individuals traveling to areas with high kidnapping rates – including family members of high-net-worth individuals, who may be targeted precisely because of who they are related to
Multinational corporations with global operations – organizations whose employees regularly travel to or are stationed in high-risk countries, who have a duty of care to protect those employees
Professional athletes, recording artists, Hollywood and Broadway stars and other celebrities – public figures whose wealth and visibility make them attractive targets both at home and abroad

It is worth noting that K&R exposure is not limited to international travel. Domestic kidnapping and extortion incidents occur as well, and high-profile individuals and their families face risk regardless of geography. However, international travel – particularly to regions in Latin America, West Africa, parts of the Middle East and Southeast Asia – represents the highest concentration of kidnapping risk for the individuals and organizations most likely to carry this coverage.
