Index Investing

An investment strategy that seeks to replicate the returns of a market index by holding the index’s securities. Index investing is a form of passive investing; rather than trying to pick investments that will outperform an index, indexing simply tries to match the index’s performance. Index investing tends to outperform most actively managed strategies. See Active Management, Beating the Market, Index Funds, Passive Management
