Passive Management

Glossary

Passive Management

An investment strategy that calls for purchasing all the securities in a given asset class and holding them for long periods. The goal is to produce a return that is equal to the performance of the asset class (minus expenses), not to outperform. Some passive investors purchase equal amounts of each security, while others buy them on a market-cap basis. See Active Management, Beating the Market, Index Funds, Index Investing, SPIVA Scorecard
