Life Expectancy

Glossary

Life Expectancy

The number of years a person of a given age is statistically likely to live, based on mortality data. Life expectancy is used by insurance companies to price life insurance and annuity products, and by retirees to estimate how long their savings must last. The Social Security Administration publishes actuarial life tables showing life expectancy by age and sex. See Lifespan, Healthspan
