A state-issued credential that authorizes a person or company to sell a specific type of insurance in that state. Separate licenses are required for life and health insurance and property and casualty insurance. To obtain and maintain a license, candidates must complete required education, pass a state exam and satisfy continuing education requirements. See Insurance Agent
