A financial instrument whereby you loan money (as little as $25) to the U.S. government; in exchange, the government agrees to return your money in the future, with interest. Savings bonds are backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government. Unlike other government-issued debt, savings bonds are non-marketable, meaning they cannot be resold to another investor.
