Deed

A legal document that transfers ownership of real estate from one party, called the grantor, to another, called the grantee. To be valid, deeds must be in writing, describe the property being transferred and be signed by the grantor. They are typically recorded with the county courthouse to make the change of ownership part of the public record. See Mortgage
